Fifth Wednesday Journal Announces the winners of the Editor’s Prize for 2009

The prize, which includes a monetary award, is given each year for work published in FWJ in the previous year.

The Editor’s Prize in Fiction for 2009 is shared by “Hearty Women” by Andrew Coburn (FWJ, Spring 2009) and “Légiposta” by Diana Joyce (FWJ, Fall 2008).
Keith Gandal, professor of English at Northern Illinois University, served as judge.

The Editor’s Prize in Poetry for 2009 is awarded for “Canto” by Ray Gonzalez (FWJ, Fall 2008). Honorable Mentions go to “Interior With a Violin” by Rebecca B. Rank (FWJ, Fall 2008) and “Saint Monica Takes Communion Twice” by Mary Biddinger (FWJ, Spring 2009).
Anna Leahy, professor of English and Creative Writing at Chapman University in Orange, California, served as judge.

The Editor’s Prize in Photography for 2009 is awarded for “Classroom, Turkey” by Harry Wilson (FWJ, Fall 2008). Honorable Mentions go to “Palm Beach, Coney Island” and “Transamerican Picnic,” by Leigh Wells (FWJ, Spring 2009).
Barbara DeGenevieve, professor and chair of the Photography Department, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, served as judge.
